I would like to thank the people at ISS Belgium, especially Mr. Bogaerts and Mr. Beckers for directing my attention to the issue and giving me inspiration for this work. The comments of Chris Mitchell were extremely motivating and kept me going since the first drafts of this report. His course on Standards and Evaluation Criteria repeatedly served as a reference for this work and showed of invaluable help to understand the existing security standards and frameworks. He definitely merits a ``Blonde Leffe''. Chez Ciechanowicz deserves special mention for his effort to get me on the course, for his help in the early stages and for his patience when dealing with formalities (I found those forms for registering for the examinations by the way). Kudos to all the staff of the department for creating a pleasant and creative environment in which the MSc course in Information Security at Royal Holloway is taught. Sincere thanks also to my parents for their unremitting support and to the EPSRC for providing the financial means that made it possible for me to study in the UK.
Finally -- now I'm getting really emotional -- I would like to thank the many friends in- and outside the college for the unforgettable moments and for the long discussions we had on topics varying from network security to conspiracy theory and more practical aspects of every-day life. Darling-Bhavani-darling did an amazing job proofreading revision 3 of this document (if you find --and you will-- any remaining mistakes, it is because I'm stubborn) - great girl! I bet she is; say no more!
