8.2.4 Traffic control

A lot of information on computer systems can be retrieved by analysing traffic on the network. This is popular on local area networks where traffic is rather homogeneous and traffic flow rather low. Wiretapping is known as a passive attack and therefore hard to detect. Traffic analysis is however easy to circumvent by putting pad traffic or noise on the network. In some cases, exercising control over the routing of packets can be effective if possible.
